LinkedIn Queens looks almost too simple: place one crown in every row, every column, and every colored region โ€” and keep the crowns from touching. But those three constraints plus the no-touch rule create a puzzle where a single correct deduction can unlock the whole board. The good news: almost every daily puzzle can be solved with pure logic. Guessing is rarely necessary.

The rules, precisely

  1. Place exactly one crown (๐Ÿ‘‘) in every row.
  2. Place exactly one crown in every column.
  3. Place exactly one crown in every colored region.
  4. Crowns may never touch each other โ€” horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Since rows, columns, and regions all carry exactly one crown, the number of regions always equals the grid size. That bookkeeping fact is useful: if you have placed crowns in five regions of a six-region board, the last region's crown is constrained by everything you already placed.

Technique 1: Start with the smallest regions

A region of one or two cells is a gift. A one-cell region tells you exactly where its crown goes. A two-cell region gives you a binary choice โ€” and the no-touch rule plus row/column constraints usually eliminate one of the two options within a move or two.

Technique 2: Mark eliminations, not just placements

Every placed crown eliminates:

  • its entire row,
  • its entire column,
  • all eight surrounding cells (the no-touch zone).

When you place a crown, immediately mark those cells as dead in your head (or on paper). Most "hard" puzzles become easy once eliminations are tracked honestly โ€” the next forced cell usually stares back at you.

Technique 3: Use region shape to force cells

When a region has several cells but all except one are eliminated by rows, columns, or no-touch zones, the remaining cell is forced. Conversely, when a row has only one cell left uneliminated, that cell must hold the row's crown โ€” even if it sits in a region you had not planned to touch yet.

Work in both directions: region โ†’ cell, and row/column โ†’ cell. The puzzle usually opens up at the intersection of the two.

Technique 4: The diagonal trap

The diagonal rule is the one players forget most. Two cells that sit corner-to-corner cannot both hold crowns, even if they belong to different rows, columns, and regions. When you are stuck, scan for cells that would diagonally trap a region: sometimes a region's only legal cell is determined purely by avoiding a diagonal collision.

Technique 5: Count to catch mistakes

If you ever feel stuck on a board that looks nearly full, count: crowns placed versus regions remaining, plus a quick check that no row or column holds two. A miscounted crown early on is the usual reason a board becomes "unsolvable". Undoing one bad placement almost always restores the cascade.

When logic seems to stall

In rare positions, two cells remain as candidates for one region and the rest of the board cannot distinguish them. Before committing to a guess:

  • Re-check every elimination โ€” a missed diagonal is the usual culprit.
  • Look at the other unfinished region instead. Stalls are often solved from the opposite side of the board.
